Port Townsend, WA : Motorcyclist in critical condition after crash near Port Townsend on Thursday, November 17, 2016

A 60-year-old man remained in critical condition in a Seattle hospital Saturday after a motorcycle crash on state Highway 20 on Thursday.

Robert Sherwood of Las Vegas crashed into an embankment as he was riding his motorcycle east down Highway 20 and was ejected from the vehicle at about 4:20 p.m., the State Patrol said.

The motorcycle flipped end over end before landing upside-down on the road, a witness told East Jefferson Fire-Rescue responders.

Both lanes of the highway were closed for more than two hours, said Bill Beezley, spokesman for the fire department.

The wreck occurred at milepost 2.3, roughly 7.5 miles outside of Port Townsend.

Sherwood was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. His condition remained critical in intensive care, a hospital spokesperson said Saturday.

Sherwood was wearing a helmet at the time of the wreck, the State Patrol said.

His motorcycle, an orange 1982 Honda Goldwing, was severely damaged and was impounded, troopers said.

The cause of the wreck is under investigation.

No charges are planned, the State Patrol said.
