The Washoe County Medical Examiner has identified the man killed by a Union Pacific train on Tuesday as 88-year-old Richard Shute of Reno.
Shute was hit and killed by a train Tuesday afternoon in west Reno, a spokesman for Union Pacific confirmed.
The crash was reported near the intersection of W. 4th Street and Summit Ridge Drive, just east of McCarran Boulevard, according to spokesman Justin Jacobs.
A Union Pacific train was heading west at about 2 p.m. when it struck an adult male pedestrian, who suffered fatal injuries, Jacobs said in an email.
No other injuries were reported, and the incident is under investigation, Jacobs said. The engineer and conductor of the train have been put in touch with peer counselors as well.
