Northampton County, PA: Trash truck dumps load into Delaware River canal, forces Rt. 611 closure on Wednesday, July 29th 2015

A trash truck overturned on Route 611 just north of Riegelsville and dumped its load onto the road and the nearby Delaware River canal just before 10 a.m. Wednesday.The driver of the truck was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, police at the scene said.The two-lane highway was closed at Route 212 to the south, a Northampton County emergency dispatch supervisor said. Traffic was being diverted at Raubsville Road to the north, dispatches say.The debris spilled from the truck included scrap metal and insulation.Pennsylvania State Police and local emergency personnel responded.The truck was uprighted about 1 p.m., but the road remained closed as crews dealt with what was being called a hazardous-materials response to the cleanup.
