Beaufort, SC : 35-year-old killed in car crash off U.S. 278 near Sun City on Monday, 26th March 2018

Officials have released the identity of a Jasper County man who died Monday following a one-car accident near Sun City Hilton Head.

Stephen F. Goddin, 35, was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, Beaufort County Coroner Ed Allen said Monday afternoon. S.C. Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of the crash, he said.

The car, a 2001 Toyota Avalon, ran off the eastbound side of U.S. 278 around 10 a.m. across from Community College Drive, according to Lance Cpl. Matthew Southern of the S.C. Highway Patrol. The driver was not wearing a seat belt, he said.

Allen said an autopsy would be performed Tuesday.
