Kings County, CA : 24-year-old Porterville woman died in car crash on a roadway south of Corcoran on Wednesday morning, Nov 18, 2015
A fatal car crash occurred on a roadway south of Corcoran Wednesday morning at approximately 8:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Hanford CHP Spokesman Adam Barresi said that a southbound Honda Accord veered off the roadway "for an unknown reason" and overturned several times in a ditch approximately 1-2 miles south of Virginia Avenue on Sixth Avenue.
The front-seat passenger — a 24-year-old Porterville woman — was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a CHP press release. Her name is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
The driver — Jorge Romero, 30, of Porterville — was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno with moderate injuries.
The crash happened in the far southeastern corner of Kings County, approximately 35 miles south of Hanford.
Romero and the woman were wearing seatbelts. Drugs or alcohol don't appear to be a factor.
According to Barresi, the Honda was traveling at approximately 65 mph when it drifted off the road into a canal.
Barresi said that the vehicle ended up upside down in mud at the bottom of the canal.
