Salem, OR : Driver fell asleep at wheel prior to crash on Monday morning, May 4, 2015

Police say the driver of a Toyota fell asleep at the wheel prior to crashing into a bus traveling in the opposite direction Monday morning.

The crash was reported just after 8:30 a.m. on Kuebler Boulevard between Commercial Street and Battle Creek Road SE. Police say the driver, 24-year-old Toni Rotondi, fell asleep at the wheel after having worked a night shift, and crashed into a bus.

Five people have been hospitalized, including one who had been in a wheelchair inside the bus. Rotondi has been charged with careless driving and failure to drive within a lane.
