Mesa, AZ : 16 injured in a collision along US 60 and Loop 101 Wednesday, Sep 23, 2015
A Mesa Police Department transport vehicle has been involved in a collision along US 60 and Loop 101 Wednesday, which has closed a portion of the freeway.
Forrest Smith, spokesman for Mesa Fire Department, said 16 patients are involved. Ten suffered minor injuries, while six were transported with serious injuries, he said. None reportedly suffered life-threatening injuries.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Bart Graves said the transport van was carrying 15 prisoners at the time of the crash.
Police said in a tweet it did not immediately know how many people were on board or if anyone was injured, but said a public information officer was en route to the scene.
Westbound U.S. 60 is closed at Loop 101, according to Arizona Department of Transportation, and authorities expect it to be closed for an extended period of time. Motorists are encouraged to exit at Alma School Road or an earlier exit.
