Yuba County, CA : Two people injured in a two-car, head-on collision on Highway 70 north of Woodruff Lane in Yuba County on Sunday, April 24, 2016

Two people were injured following a head-on collision on Sunday in Yuba County, according to officials.

A maroon 1997 Acura Integra was hit on the right rear side by a gold 1998 Ford F-150 truck, whose driver, William Ross Winkler, 59, of Bakersfield, was uninjured.

"It appears the Acura was southbound on Highway 70 and for unknown reasons drifted off the road to the right and drifted back into oncoming traffic," said California Highway Patrol Sgt. Martin Fredericks.

"That man was very lucky," said Rhonda Wenzel, an ex-nurse who happened upon the scene, about Winkler.

Wenzel, of Chico, was a few cars behind the accident while returning from a charity walk in Sacramento.

"It's sad and unfortunate when you have young people involved," said Wenzel.
Marysville Fire Capt. Aaron Van De Vort said a male was ejected about 40 to 50 feet from the Acura and had critical injuries.

The CHP said the driver of the Acura was Rene Cassiano, 26, of Sacramento.
Daisy Fuentes, 20, of Olivehurst, also in the Acura, required extrication from the car and had moderate injuries. Both victims were transported to Rideout Regional Medical Center.

Fredericks said it appears all people were wearing their seat belts and initial investigation indicates no alcohol or drugs were involved in the collision reported at 12:57 p.m.
