State troopers responded to the scene, on Highway 2 about a mile east of Highway 9, at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a report of a serious crash.
Arriving at the scene, they found that a westbound Honda Accord had veered into the oncoming eastbound lane and slammed head-on into a Jeep Liberty.
The driver of the Accord, later identified as Andrew J. Baskins, 37, of Marysville, was taken to Colby Hospital, where he died of his injuries at about 4:45 a.m. Wednesday.
The driver of the Jeep, a 77-year-old Monroe man, sustained less serious injuries and was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
