ST. FRANCOIS COUNTY, MO : 27-year-old dies in fatal accident in St. Francois County on Sunday, 27th September, 2020

An off-duty Bonne Terre police officer is in the hospital with serious injuries after he and his girlfriend were in an off-duty fatal car accident Sunday morning.

The victims of the crash were Officer Jeremy Brooks and his 27-year-old girlfriend Emily Clifford.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported the accident happened at approximately 1:15 a.m. Sunday morning on Route K, east of Sickman Road.

In the vehicle, Clifford was driving and Brooks was in the passenger’s seat.

Clifford died in the single-car accident after failing to negotiate around a curve. She overcorrected into the oncoming lane of traffic and then overcorrected again causing the SUV to slide and travel off the road. The vehicle hit multiple trees.

Clifford was taken to a hospital by Life Flight Helicopter where she was pronounced dead. Brooks has serious injuries. They were both wearing their seatbelts.
