Manhattan, KS :1 injured in truck crash on Tuesday, 17th April 2018
A truck overturned attempting to avoid a school bus and closed part of Walters Drive for more than two hours Monday, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report.
One person was injured in the crash.
Laura Kumle, 36, Manhattan, was driving a school bus west on Walters Drive, and Delbert Henson, 45, Belvue, was driving a 2000 Peterbilt tractor-trailer north on U.S. Highway 24 at 2:56 p.m. just south of Marlatt Avenue. Kumle failed to yield to the truck as it crossed the intersection.
Henson steered right while braking to avoid hitting the bus, drove into the ditch and attempted to correct back onto the paved road. It flipped onto its right side and came to rest in the east ditch, the report said.
Henson was taken to Via Christi for treatment of his injuries. He was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said Tuesday. Both drivers were wearing seat belts and KHP listed no children on the bus at the time.
The road reopened at 5:45 p.m., according to the Riley County Police Department.
