KNOXVILLE, TN : Adult killed, child seriously injured in 2 overnight DUI crashes on Morell Road near Devonshire Drive on Friday, 15th February 2019

An adult was killed and a child left with life-threatening injuries after two overnight DUI crashes in Knoxville.

The Knoxville Police Department says they were called to a single vehicle crash on Morell Road near Devonshire Drive around 12:32 a.m. When officers arrived, they found the driver of a Ford Ranger pickup truck had died.

Police say their investigation revealed the truck was going south on Morell Road when it left the roadway, hit a tree and went south along the edge of the roadway before climbing up an embankment and flipping several times.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. Police say alcohol was a factor. The driver's name has not yet been released.

Meanwhile, while officers were investigating that crash, a second single-vehicle crash was reported on Interstate 40 West at the Strawberry Plains exit. Police say a Pontiac Grand Am driven by Joevon Deltroy Foust, 25, was driving erratically in the left lane when he crossed both lanes to the right then ran off the road and hit some trees.

Foust, a female passenger, Jasmine Irvin, 26, and a 2-year-old in the back seat were all ejected from the vehicle. The child was in a safety seat, but police say it was not properly fastened to the car.

Irvin and Foust both had minor injuries, but the child was left with life-threatening injuries and taken to UT Medical Center.

Charges are pending in that crash.
