A Taunton man has died after he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle.

Authorities say the victim, identified as 36-year-old Michael Alfano, of Taunton, was riding his bike in the area of Washington Street and Broadway on Thursday when he was struck in the crosswalk by a vehicle.

Upon arrival, officer found Alfano lying in the road with critical head trauma.

Alfano was subsequently transported to Morton Hospital, but was soon taken by Med-Flight to Brigham and Women’s Hospital where her was pronounced dead hours later.

An investigation led by Taunton Police determined Alfano was thrown from the bike, and the vehicle continued down Washington Street dragging the bike underneath.

The bike, as well as the vehicle that struck Alfano was found on Park Street, locked but unattended.

The investigation is ongoing.
