Cocoa, FL : Pedestrian struck, killed by a commercial van on U.S. 1 at Peachtree Street on Saturday, July 30, 2016
A pedestrian was killed Saturday when he was hit by a commercial van in Cocoa.
Cocoa police said a driver of a van was traveling on U.S. 1 at Peachtree Street about 8 a.m. when the van struck Nathan Vandegrift, 31.
Vandegrift died of from his injuries at a hospital Saturday afternoon.
The Cocoa Firefighters Union posted a Facebook message that Nathan is the brother of firefighter Josh Vandegrift.
The firefighters have established a fund to help pay expenses for the family, and an account has been launches on the GoFundMe website.
Cocoa police say multiple witnesses reported that the van ran a red light and hit Nathan Vandegrift as he was crossing the intersection.
The name of the driver has not been released.
The crash is still under investigation and charges are pending.
