Delta, OH : 47-year-old Warren man died in a two commercial vehicle wreck on Interstate 80 in northwest Ohio on Wednesday, July 29, 2015
A driver was killed early today when two tractor-trailer rigs collided on the Ohio Turnpike in Fulton County, closing the westbound lanes for about three hours.
Russell Florida, 47, of Warren was pronounced dead at the scene of the 12:35 a.m. crash near milepost 37, between the Wauseon and the Delta-Lyons exchanges, according to the Swanton post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.
Mr. Florida was traveling westbound when he collided with a truck parked in the right lane with its lights off due to mechanical failure. Driver Charles Simons, 61, of East Northport, N.Y. and passenger John Adams III, 50, of Granite City, Ill. had exited the vehicle to alert oncoming traffic, troopers said.
Mr. Florida's vehicle traveled into a ditch and he was extricated through mechanical means.
Traffic returned to normal about 3:30 a.m. Mr. Florida wore his seat belt and alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The crash remains under investigation.
