Pelham,MA : Police identify victims in head-on Pelham crash on April, thursday 25th 2017
A 32-year-old Pelham man suffered serious injuries and a 42-year-old Londonderry woman was also injured in a head-on crash involving a possible sleeping driver on Mammoth Road in Pelham on Tuesday afternoon.
The two-vehicle crash that left Francis Ferreira, of Pelham, hospitalized, took place shortly after 4 p.m. in front of Muldoon Park, according to a release from the Pelham Police Department.
Stephanie Robinson, of Londonderry, suffered minor injuries. She was taken to Lowell General Hospital for evaluation due to the seriousness of the crash, according to police.
Robinson and Ferreira were the only people involved in the crash.
Witnesses at the scene reported that a 2001 Chevy S-10 pickup truck, which they said had a driver who appeared to be asleep at the wheel, was driving south on Mammoth Road, according to police. The pickup truck, which was driven by Ferreira, crossed into the northbound lane and collided head-on with a 2015 Honda CR-V, driven by Robinson, according to police.
Ferreira was unable to exit his vehicle when first responders arrived, complained of chest pain and possible internal injuries, police said. Pelham firefighters extricated him from the truck with the Jaws of Life.
Ferreira was transported to Lowell General Hospital where the trauma team was activated. He was then moved to the Tufts Medical Center in Boston, according to police.
Mammoth Road was shutdown and traffic was detoured for roughly an hour while emergency responders cleared the scene. The Hudson Fire Department assisted at the scene.
An investigation into the crash remains ongoing, and police said charges may be pending.
