A motorcycle rider was killed late Tuesday morning after losing control of his bike on a mountain road near the town of Lashmeet.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:40 a.m. on Wright Mountain Road off Route 10 near Lashmeet, according to Deputy L.L. Addair of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department. The male rider, who was alone on the Honda Shadow motorcycle, died at the scene.
“He was traveling south up Wright Mountain Road,” Addair said. “He was negotiating a right curve, and in the curve he lost control and laid the bike down in the roadway and slid into a vehicle that was traveling in the opposite lane.”
The other vehicle’s driver was not injured, Addair stated.
Addair said the name of the motorcycle rider was being withheld Tuesday pending the notification of the next of kin. What factors contributed to the crash had not been determined, and it was still under investigation Tuesday afternoon.
The Princeton Rescue Squad and Matoaka Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the scene.
