Framingham, MA : Two people injured, trapped in truck crash on Route 9 in Framingham on Thursday night, January 22, 2015

Two people were seriously injured early this morning when a sport utility vehicle crashed into a tractor-trailer on Rte. 9 near the intersection of California Avenue just before midnight, according police and fire broadcasts.

The MetroWest Daily News reported that the male driver and female passenger were pinned in the GMC Acadia, according to public safety broadcasts. The fire department sent engines and rescue vehicles, including ambulances, broadcasts said. The sport utility vehicle was pinned beneath the trailer. Rescue teams using the Jaws of Life cutting tool had freed the driver shortly after midnight and the female passenger a few minutes later. Emergency personnel called for a medical rescue helicopter which touched down outside the state police barracks in Framingham.

Framingham police had requested help from the state police accident reconstruction team, according to public safety broadcasts.

Robert Simmarano, who works for Knights limo service, said he was sitting in a nearby office park's parking lot waiting to be dispatched.

"I saw the car pass by at a high rate of speed when everyone else was slowing down," he said.

He didn't see the crash, but heard it.

He said he went to the crash with a fire extinguisher because there was a small fire.

"Both driver and passenger were pretty much wedged under the dashboard," he said. They were a foot to a foot and a half from the truck, he said.
