North Platte, NE : Teenager taken to hospital following rollover accident near Sutherland on Friday, January 6, 2017
A teenager was taken to Great Plains Health after an icy accident near Sutherland on Friday.
The 16-year-old girl was driving to school with a 12-year-old boy when the vehicle she was driving left U.S. Highway 30 near the O’Fallon’s overpass and rolled down the embankment, said Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Heath Bellinger.
Both the minors were wearing seat belts, and air bags did not deploy. Bellinger said the “vehicle lost traction on the roadway” because of the cold, icy conditions.
The girl went to the hospital with complaints of pain, though that was the only injury reported, Bellinger said.
He reminded drivers to slow down when there is a possibility of ice and not to use cruise control in such conditions.
