Union County, NC : 49-year-old Charles Edward Reynolds died after truck crashes into tree on Highway 218 at Edwards Farm Lane on Monday, May 11, 2015

A man was killed in an accident on a Union County highway late Monday morning, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The accident happened just before 12 p.m. on Highway 218 at Edwards Farm Lane.

Troopers say the driver, later identified as 49-year-old Charles Edward Reynolds, went off the road then overcorrected, causing him to run off the left side of the road where he struck a tree.

Reynolds was pronounced dead at the scene.

Reynolds was the only person in his truck and no other vehicles were involved.

The road around the scene was closed for a little over an hour.
