Three children and an adult were injured in a crash at 4 p.m. Sunday, 8 miles north of Max, N.D., according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, and bystanders who assisted them also received minor injuries.
Ashley Colby, 22, Bismarck, was driving a 2005 Buick Ranier SUV and towing a 2001 Nissan Maxima on U.S. Highway 83 head south to Bismarck. The patrol said Colby lost control of the vehicle, both vehicles went off the road and the Buick overturned and was submerged upside down in a slough. The patrol said six bystanders stopped and helped, including turning the Buick upright and breaking out the windows to extract Colby and three child passengers -- two girls, 5 and 2, and a boy, 3 months old.
The driver wore seat belts and the children were all in child restraint seats. The patrol said one of the bystanders performed CPR on one of the children. Colby and the children were transported by Ward County Ambulance Service to Trinity Health in Minot. The patrol said the six bystanders who helped turn the car over received minor injuries.
Colby was charged with driving while license under suspension and reckless endangerment.
