Putnam, CT : Thompson teenager killed in crash on I-395 in Putnam on Monday morning, January 2, 2017

A Thompson teenager was killed Monday morning after crashing his car on Interstate 395, according to Connecticut State Police.

The driver, the only person in the car at the time, was driving south on the highway just north of the Exit 45 off-ramp in Putnam when he suddenly turned off of the left shoulder lane into the median, where he struck a railroad bridge, police said. Police were not sure why he veered off the highway.

An accident summary provided by state police identified the victim as Ryan French, 16, of North Grosvenordale. The car was a 2014 Nissan Frontier.

The accident, which occurred just before noon, is still under investigation.
