Oak Brook, IL : An off-duty Chicago Ridge police officer dead in wrong-way crash on Interstate 294 near Cermak Road on Sunday, Sep 13, 2015

An off-duty Chicago Ridge police officer is dead following a crash caused by a driver going the wrong way on Interstate 294 near Oak Brook.

The Illinois State Police is investigating the crash, which happened at approximately 3:45 a.m. Sunday. A driver of a Toyota was heading south in the northbound lanes of Interstate 294 near Cermak Road. The Toyota struck a northbound vehicle which spun out of control and hit a third vehicle.

In a news release, the agency said one passenger in one of the northbound vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene. The news release said the deceased was an off-duty Chicago Ridge police officer.

Two other people were taken to a hospital in Elmhurst.
