JOSHUA TREE, CA : Highway crash leads to DUI arrest on Twentynine Palms Highway at White Feather Road on Friday, 24th August 2018
A driver blamed for a collision that slowed traffic on Twentynine Palms Highway at White Feather Road about 7:45 Friday was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence causing injury.
Stephanie C. Williams, 31, of Yucca Valley, was arrested after being treated for minor injuries at Desert Regional Medical Center.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Jason Kobaly, Williams was heading west on the highway in a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe approaching White Feather Road when she rear-ended a 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck driven by Tina Johnson, 57, of Joshua Tree.
A witness reported that Williams rear-ended Johnson’s pickup truck as Johnson waited at the traffic signal at White Feather Road.
Traffic was backed up heading east and west on the highway by the accident, which blocked both westbound lanes, forcing officers to divert traffic around the collision.
Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to open the Hyundai to free Williams.
Johnson was transported to Hi-Desert Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
CHP Officer Simon Miller is leading the investigation.
