Charlotte, NC : Ten people injured after a CATS bus involved in a crash in east Charlotte on Sunday afternoon, Nov 1, 2015
Charlotte, North Carolina
Ten people were taken to the hospital Sunday when a CATS bus, according to Medic.
The crash happened near the intersection of Central Avenue and Briar Creek in east Charlotte.
It appears that the front left corner of the bus suffered the worst damage. The bus was towed from the scene.
Hillary Ryan with CATS said the bus was traveling outbound on Central Avenue and had a green light at the time of the accident. She said a van tried to make a left turn and hit the bus.
Medic says one of the patients was seriously injured, and taken to Carolinas Medical Center. Seven others were taken there with minor injuries and two were transported to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center.
Ryan said seven of the people transported to the hospital were on the bus at the time of the accident. She said all passengers on the bus had non-life-threatening injuries.
"I look up and I see a van trying to make a U-turn and then the bus straight hit it like boom," said Rasheem Lemon, a passenger on the bus.
Ryan said the crash is still under police investigation, but it appears the driver of the bus was not responsible for the accident.
