Los Angeles, CA : Man pleads no contest in North Hills triple-fatal DUI crash on Thursday, 8th August 2019

A 19-year-old man pleaded no contest Thursday to killing three people when he crashed into a vehicle in North Hills while under the influence of marijuana and a benzodiazepine, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said.

Riley John Holman of Mission Hills entered the pleas to three counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and one count of driving under the influence of a drug causing injury, Deputy District Attorney Kaveh Faturechi said.

Holman faces more than 14 years in state prison at sentencing, which is scheduled for July 8 in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

On Aug. 9, 2015, Santos Benjamin Ordonez-Baquiax, 22, was driving a Toyota Corolla near Roscoe Boulevard and Haskell Avenue when Holman’s Jeep crashed into his car. The victim’s vehicle spun out and crashed against a third vehicle, Faturechi said.

Santos Benjamin and his brother Edgar Ordonez-Baquiax, 20, who was a passenger in the car, were killed. Francis Olivas Oxlaj-Alvarez, 25 – a third passenger – also died. A fourth passenger in their vehicle was severely injured.
