Franklinton, LA: One dead, one arrested after car crash in Washington Parish on Saturday, July 18th 2015
A Denham Springs man has been arrested for negligent homicide and reckless operation in connection with a car crash that killed a man in Washington Parish Saturday morning (July 18), State Police said.Troy Simoneaux, 49, was arrested after the crash on Louisiana 10 between Richardson and Franklinton, State Police said Sunday.
Simoneaux, driving a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe, had pulled onto eastbound Louisiana 10 when his vehicle was passed by a 2005 GMC Sierra, State Police said. A short time later, Simoneaux attempted to pass the Sierra in a no-passing zone. But as he attempted to pass the vehicle to the left, Simoneaux ran off the left side of the highway and lost control, State Police said.State Police said Simoneaux over-corrected to the right and crashed his vehicle into the left rear quarter panel of the Sierra. After being struck, the Sierra spun and overturned several times, State Police said."An independent witness to this crash reported to troopers that Simoneaux was driving in a reckless and aggressive manner at the time of the crash,'' State Police said.The driver of the Sierra was wearing a seat belt but suffered severe injuries in the crash. He was airlifted to a nearby hospital where he later died, State Police said.State Police did not release his identity Sunday pending notification of his family.Simoneaux, who was also was wearing a seat belt, was not injured, State Police said. Simoneaux was transported to the Washington Parish Jail, where a blood test showed no traces of alcohol, State Police said.The charges against Simoneaux were based on physical evidence and witness statements, authorities said. State Police said he was released to the custody of the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office.
