Emporia, KS : Witnesses sought in Wednesday morning crash on April, wednesday 12th 2017
The Emporia Police Department is seeking witnesses to a two-vehicle crash which sent two women to the hospital Wednesday morning.
At 11 a.m. Wednesday, the Emporia Police Department responded to the scene of an accident near the intersection of West Sixth Avenue and Rural Street. An ambulance was called to the scene shortly after law enforcement arrived because one of the drivers had a possible head injury.
The investigating officer reported a white passenger car driven by 70-year-old Sandra Long of Strong City was westbound in the north lane of traffic on West Sixth Avenue. Meanwhile, a gray SUV driven 45-year-old Delia Salazar-Aleman of Emporia was heading south on Rural Street.
"Both drivers claimed they had a green light," Sergeant Lisa Sage said Wednesday afternoon. "No witnesses were available to officers at the scene. There were no other passengers in either vehicle."
Long was transported by ambulance to Newman Regional Health with a possible injury to her chest while Salazar-Aleman was also transported for a possible head injury. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and no traffic citations were issued at the scene.
The Emporia Police Department is seeking witnesses to this crash and asking anyone with information to contact authorities at 343-4200.
Traffic was re-directed around the scene of the wreck for about a half-hour while crews took statements and cleaned up debris.
