BLUEFIELD, WV : One injury in school bus accident in Bluefield on Monday, December, 11th 2017
One child was transported after a minor weather-related accident involving a school bus on Highland Avenue in Bluefield.
Bluefield Fire Chief Rick Cary said there were 23 students on the bus at the time of the accident.
"We had a minor motor-vehicle accident here at Highland Avenue with a bus full of kids," Cary said. "Inside the bus, we had a kid who had some minor injuries. We're going to transport just for safety reasons. Roads are treacherous and that looks like what this is going to be — a weather related accident. The kid is OK, but just for safety and precaution we're going to take them up to Bluefield Regional."
According to Detective J.B. Fox, the bus was traveling on Highland Avenue towards Bluefield Avenue when the incident occurred.
"This vehicle was coming off South Street here," Fox said. "He said that he started sliding and pumping his breaks and ran into the rear right wheel of the school bus. It's all still under investigation."
The Bluefield Rescue Squad, Bluefield Fire Department and Bluefield Police Department all worked the scene of the incident.
The accident took place at the 200 block of Highland Avenue just before Hardees in Bluefield.
