STRONG, ME : A tractor-trailer truck collided on Route 4 on Thursday, November, 2nd 2017
A Rangeley man was injured Thursday morning when his car and a tractor-trailer truck collided on Route 4, a state police trooper said.
A truck driven by Ernest Hamel, 59, of Greene was going around a sharp corner on Route 4, also known as Phillips Road, heading north toward Avon when a vehicle driven by Francis Sheehan, 80, of Rangeley attempted to make a left turn onto an access way to Route 145, also known as Main Street, toward downtown Strong, according to Trooper Eric Ward.
The vehicle collided with the truck near the driver’s-side wheel, Ward said.
Sheehan told police that his vehicle slid on the wet pavement when he tried to stop, Ward said.
The roads at both intersections were tied up for about 90 minutes with one lane open.
Sheehan complained of neck and back pain and was taken by a NorthStar EMS ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, Ward said.
Hamel was driving an unloaded truck owned by R.C. Moore Inc. The company is headquartered in Scarborough, with offices in Poland and Pennsylvania, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene, Ward said.
Ward was assisted at the accident, reported at 6:50 a.m., by Franklin County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Steven Lowell, Deputy Sandy Burke and the Strong Fire Department.
