Command Sergeant Major Lynn Edward Ratley, age 47, a native of Rowland, North Carolina, died in a motor vehicle crash Saturday evening in Fayetteville. Ratley was the command sergeant of the 261st Multifunctional Medical Battalion at Fort Bragg.
Fayetteville Police Department responded Saturday around 5:30 p.m. to the crash scene at the intersection of West Mountain View and Gillespie Street in Fayetteville. CSM Ratley was riding a motorcycle when he was struck in the intersection by Justin Andrew Dunlap, 26, of Hope Mills. Dunlap was arrested on multiple charges and was taken to the Cumberland County Detention Center for processing.
CSM Ratley leaves behind a grieving battalion, and his family including two daughters and two small grandchildren.
