Millsboro, DE: Pedestrian killed in crash near Millsboro early Saturday, July 25th 2015

A pedestrian was hit and killed early Saturday morning while trying to cross DuPont Boulevard (U.S. 113) north of Millsboro, state police said.Cortez L. Solomon, 50, of Florida, was attempting to cross the southbound lanes of DuPont Boulevard at 1:37 a.m. about .3 miles north of Delaware Avenue when he stepped into the path of an oncoming vehicle, Master Cpl. Jeffrey Hale said.Carol A. Farrell, 68m of Millsboro, was driving a 2014 Kia Optima southbound in the right lane of DuPont Boulevard when Solomon stepped out in front of her.The front, right side of Farrell’s vehicle struck Solomon, throwing him into the roadway and onto the shoulder, Hale said, before Farrell could bring her vehicle to a stop.Solomon sustained massive injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, Hale said. Alcohol use by Solomon is being considered a factor in the crash, he added.Neither Farrell nor a male passenger in her vehicle, who were both properly restrained, were injured, Hale said.State police continue to investigate the crash, he added.
