BROOKSHIRE, TX : 2 bicyclists killed in hit-and-run accident in Texas on Saturday, March 25th 2017
Authorities in Texas said Saturday they have identified a person of interest in a hit-and-run accident that killed two bicyclists Saturday afternoon in Waller County.
According to the Waller County Sheriff's Office, a driver hit three bicyclists, killing two of them, and then fled on foot. The accident occurred in Brookshire, about 40 miles west of Houston.
"(The bicyclists) were on the right side of the roadway, they were doing what they had to do. They were obeying the law and they're not here right now and it's a sad moment," Texas state Trooper Eric Burse said.
The Waller County Sheriff’s Office officials said they have detained 25-year-old Victor Kevin Tome as a person of interest in the case.
After fleeing, the driver allegedly broke into someone's home just down the road from the scene of the accident, the Sheriff’s Office said.
When the homeowner returned home, he found the suspect sitting in his living room. The homeowner was able to convince the suspect to turn himself in to police. He was taken into custody without incident.
The names of the victims have not yet been released.
