Hernando, MS : Arkansas woman,and daughter died in Mississippi crash Interstate 55 On Thursday, August 20 2015
The child killed in a fiery head-on crash on Interstate 55 in DeSoto County has been identified.
DeSoto County Coroner Jeffrey Pounders tells The Commercial Appeal the 9-year-old was Georgia Overton, the daughter of the SUV's driver, 49-year-old Susan Overton, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, who also died in the wreck.Both were killed Thursday when the SUV, traveling north in the southbound lanes of I-55 near Hernando, crashed head-on into a UPS tractor-trailer.
The reconstruction of the accident continued Friday, but Sheriff Bill Rasco said investigators still had not determined why Overton was driving the wrong direction.
The crash spurred a second fatal wreck, when a minivan driven by 67-year-old Robert C. Maxwell, of Hinds County, Mississippi, ran under the rear of an 18-wheeler. Maxwell died instantly.
