Independence Township, MI : 55-year-old motorcyclist died after a head-on collision on a busy local road on Saturday, April 16, 2016
A 55-year-old Independence Township motorcyclist died over the weekend after a head-on collision on a busy local road.
Deputies at 3:45 p.m. Saturday, April 16, were sent to Clarkston Road near Lakeview Drive after getting calls about an accident that occurred between a motorcycle and an SUV.
Upon arrival, investigators learned that an Independence Township man driving a 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle was heading eastbound on Clarkston Road when he reportedly lost control, crossed the center line and went into oncoming traffic, striking a 2007 GMC Acadia head on.
Emergency personnel attempted life-saving techniques on the 55-year-old at the scene, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Authorities have identified the man as Independence resident John J. Cox.
Cox was wearing a helmet, officials said.
The driver of the Acadia — a 30-year-old mother from Flushing — had her 1-year-old daughter in the SUV during the crash. Independence Township emergency personnel treated both at the scene for minor injuries, and later released them.
According to a statement from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this accident, which remains under investigation.
