Anderson County, TN : THP trooper & sheriff's candidate injured in crash Monday afternoon on July 21, 2014
A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper who is also running for Anderson County sheriff was injured in an accident while on duty Monday afternoon.
Accordng to THP, Trooper Anthony Lay was stopped at a red light on North Central Street near downtown Knoxville when he was rear-ended by an SUV driven by Candace Harris, 26, of Rockford. She was not hurt and was cited with not driving with due care or having proof of insurance.
Lay was taken to UT Medical Center for treatment. We don' t have an update on his condition.
Lay is running for sheriff in Anderson County, taking on current sheriff Paul White. He is a former Scott County sheriff and U.S. Marshal.
