Phoenix, AZ : Multiple injuries in 2 crashes that closed U.S. 60 near Loop 101 on Tuesday, 11th February, 2020

Two separate crashes on U.S. 60 on Tuesday night resulting in injuries forced the highway to be closed temporarily, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The first crash, which occurred about 6:50 p.m. on U.S. 60 westbound at McClintock Drive, involved two vehicles and appeared to have been caused by a passenger car stopped in the middle lane, DPS said.

Two people were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, according to DPS.

The second crash involved three vehicles and occurred on westbound U.S. 60, east of the first crash.

Crews from the Mesa and Tempe fire departments responded to the scene and had to use an emergency extraction device to remove two people, according to Mesa Fire Department Capt. Mike Castillo.

All lanes of the U.S. 60 were closed for a period of time but reopened about 9 p.m., according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
