Gallatin, TN :Mother of woman accused in deadly hit-and-run speaks out on Friday, August 21 2015
The mother of a woman accused of hitting and killing a 14-year-old girl with her truck is sharing her story.
Virginia Collins told Channel 4 her daughter, 42-year-old Amanda Hall, didn’t stop because she thought she had hit a deer.
We’re so sorry,” Collins said. “It is beyond tragic.”
Hall was arrested and charged with hitting and killing Brianna Lowe two months ago.
I, in my heart, don’t think she realized it was a child or a person,” Collins said.
Hall appeared in Sumner County Criminal Court Friday morning to face charges of vehicular homicide, driving on a suspended license and leaving the scene of a deadly accident.
Hall addressed the judge briefly and said she cannot afford an attorney because she’s homeless and has no income.
She was on suicide watch for a while because she felt so horrible,” Collins said. “She didn’t feel she was worth to live.”
Officers arrested Hall after they found damage to her pickup truck a day after she allegedly hit and killed Brianna on Dobbins Pike on June 16.
Collins said her daughter thought she had hit a deer.
She came home and told my husband, ‘I hit another deer. I can’t believe my luck on this road,’” she said. “It was like her fourth or fifth deer.”
Hall and her family have offered their condolences to Brianna’s family for the tragedy, begging for forgiveness and hoping for understanding.
I’m sure every day you grieve for her as I would, and we’re so sorry,” Collins said. “We’re very sorry.”
Prosecuting attorney Ron Blanton told Channel 4 Hall’s airbags were deployed when officers found her truck in her driveway the day after the accident.
