Alameda, CA : Driver severely injured in crash in Walnut Creek on Monday night, September 12, 2016

At least one person was hospitalized with serious injuries after a Mini Cooper crashed into a tree Monday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision was reported at 10:01 p.m. at the North Main Street onramp to northbound Interstate 680, said Officer Damian Cistaro.

The driver was trapped in the wrecked vehicle, Cistaro said. Firefighters had to extricate at least one individual from the Mini Cooper.

One person was transported to John Muir Medical Center with major injuries.
