THOMASVILLE, GA : Florida woman dies in city traffic crash on Monday, January 2nd 2017
A 53-year-old Florida woman died in a midday New Year's Day traffic crash the Thomasville Post 12 Georgia State Patrol commander said will require several more days of investigation.
Katrina L. Patterson, 860 N. Cherry St., Monticello, Florida, driving a 2005 Hyundai, was traveling east on West Jackson about 12:45 p.m. Sunday when a 1996 Toyota 4Runner traveling in the opposite direction crossed the center line and struck the Hyundai's driver side door.
The at-fault Toyota was driven by La-Kendra K. Stringer, 17, 141 Crimson Circle, Sgt. First Class Tommy Peeples, GSP post commander, said.
"We're looking at speed, roadway conditions. The roadway was wet at the time," Peeples explained.
The crash occurred near West Jackson's intersection with Patten Street.
Three children were passengers in the Hyundai. Peeples said one child was seriously injured and transported to Archbold Memorial Hospital. The other two children, whose injuries were minor, also were transported to Archbold.
A passenger in the 4Runner did not have serious injuries.
Information was not available Monday about whether drivers and passengers were wearing seatbelts. Peeples said the written crash report was not complete.
"It's still all under investigation. It's going to take a couple of days to put this together," he said.
Charges are pending a complete investigation.
Video from a camera on the exterior of a business near the crash site will be viewed to help gather information.
Said the commander, "Speed is possibly a contributing factor."
