Waterbury, CT : One person dead after crash involving several vehicles, tractor trailer on I-84 in New Haven County on Wednesday, January 6, 2016

Officials say one person is dead after a multi-vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 84 in Waterbury.

The accident, which happened between exits 23 and 25 on I-84's eastbound side, was reported around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The fatality, but no further information about the victim was available.

State police say the crash involved several cars and a tractor trailer. One of the cars reportedly caught fire.

Authorities say the accident occurred in the area of an earlier water main break on Harpers Ferry Road that caused icing on the highway.

State police issued a statement around 9 p.m. urging drivers to use caution in the area.
