Lee County, FL : Driver dies in crash after suspected medical event on Monday, January 5, 2015

A Fort Myers Beach man is believed to have suffered a medical event and caused a three vehicle crash Monday in Lee County that he did not survive.

Deputies went to the crash at Big San Carlos Pass at approximately 1:05 p.m. on Monday.

Driver Walter Wah You Gouveia, 78, of Fort Myers Beach was believed to be at fault, according to Lee County Sheriff's Office. He suffered life threatening injuries and later died at the hospital.

Several other people in the crash suffered minor injuries.

Traffic was stopped because the bridge was raised when a vehicle traveling northbound slammed into another vehicle while traveling an estimated 55 miles per hour. That vehicle then struck a third vehicle, according to LCSO, which is still investigating.
