Essex, VT : Driver seriously injured in a two-car crash on Route 128 in Essex junction on Monday, Sep 28, 2015
A two-car crash closed Route 128 in Essex for hours Monday.
Police say at around 5 p.m., a garbage truck owned by Casella Waste Systems tipped over going around a curve. It was carrying 30 tons of material when it landed on a silver BMW, trapping the driver inside. Police say that person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
"It took members of our department and Essex Junction about 45 minutes with the assistance of heavy wreckers from both Tailhook Towing and Clark's Truck Center to pick the garbage truck up off the car so we could cut the roof off and extricate the driver out of the car," said Chief Charles Cole, Essex Fire Department.
Authorities worked into the evening reconstructing the crash scene. No word yet if the truck driver will face charges.
