Tallahassee, FL : A head-on crash in Glades County on Wednesday, November, 22nd 2017
Two Collier County residents were among three killed early Wednesday in a head-on crash in Glades County, state police reported.
A Ford SUV hit a truck head-on about 5:35 a.m. at State Road 29 and Chaparral Avenue in Moore Haven, Glades County, Florida Highway Patrol reported.
Killed were the truck's driver, Manuel Rodriguez, 31, and a passenger, J. Nicolas Rodriguez, 71, both of Immokalee. The SUV driver also was killed but FHP had yet to release his or her name pending next of kin notification, in a news release emailed late Wednesday afternoon.
Three passengers — all of Immokalee — in the truck also suffered injuries: Gloria Rodriguez, 62; Jeanette Alvarado, 29; and Alfred Rodriguez, 41. All were transported to three nearby hospitals in serious condition, FHP says.
The SUV driver was south on State Road 29 north of Chapparal Avenue, FHP said in the news release. Manuel Rodriguez was driving north on State Road 29 north of Chapparal when the SUV crossed into northbound lane and hit the front of Rodriguez's truck.
After impact, FHP says, both vehicles were redirected to the northwest and caught fire. Both vehicles came to a final rest facing northwest on the west shoulder of State Road 29, with the truck south of the SUV, FHP reports.
Vehicle occupants who lived were able to exit or be removed before it caught on fire. Manuel Rodriguez remained entrapped in the truck, however, FHP reports.
The wreck shut down State Road 29 in that vicinity for some time earlier Wednesday.
