Dunnellon, FL : Cyclist struck, killed in crash on West Dunnellon Road (County Road 488)on Sunday, 9th February, 2020

A 37-year-old Dunnellon man was struck and killed Sunday morning while traveling westbound on West Dunnellon Road (County Road 488), according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Michael Todd Gilkerson was traveling on a bicycle when a Toyota truck struck him, propelling Gilkerson to the north grass shoulder. He suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash, the FHP reported. The wreck was reported at 7:20 a.m.

The driver of the Toyota, however, fled the scene of the crash. Officials believed the crash occurred late Saturday, the report stated. Following information received via a tip, FHP Troopers located the suspect vehicle regarding this case. Troopers continue to investigate the fatal crash incident.
