CORDES LAKES, AZ : 1 dead, 1 hospitalized after I-17 crash near Cordes Lakes on Sunday, 4th February 2024

One person is dead, and another is fighting for their life after an Interstate 17 crash near Cordes Lakes on Sunday afternoon.

Around 2:30 p.m., the Arizona Department of Transportation reported the crash on the southbound I-17 at Bloody Basin Road near Cordes Lakes. The Mayer Fire District was called to the accident and said that a vehicle was found with heavy damage and was impaled by a guardrail on the passenger side. Mayer Fire says two people had to be pulled out of the car. One person died at the scene, and another was flown to a hospital.

The southbound lanes of I-17 near milepost 260 were closed for a few hours as crews cleared the scene and investigated the crash. It has since reopened. You can always check traffic conditions on Arizona’s Family Traffic page.
