Montville, OH : One driver dead after a five-vehicle accident on State Route 18 in Medina on Sunday morning, December 27, 2015

All lanes of Interstate 71 North are now reopen after a multi-vehicle, fatal accident shut down the highway for about three hours Sunday morning.

The accident happened around 3:30 a.m., just south of State Route 18.

Five vehicles were involved, and one driver has died from his injuries.

The other four drivers were checked out at the scene, but only suffered minor injuries.

Erin Jones, 44, of Avon Lake, was driving a 2009 Chevy Malibu northbound in the right lane. Her vehicle struck a northbound 2011 Ford Fusion, driven by 75-year-old James Sexton, of Edinboro, Pa.

Sexton lost control, traveled off the road and struck a guardrail. A 2005 Chevy Cavalier, driven by 58-year-old Genghis Meredith, of Oakwood Village, then hit Sexton's vehicle.

Sexton's vehicle was disabled and sitting in the left lane. Sarah Martin, 32, of Hamilton, then crashed into the passenger side of Sexton's vehicle, causing her car to roll onto its side. Martin was driving a 2012 Nissan Xtera.

Waymon Lanier, 76, of Cleveland, then struck both Martin and Sexton's vehicles with a 2012 Lincoln.

Sexton was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 5-year-old Liam Sexton, of Kentucky, was taken to Akron Children's Hospital with facial lacerations. Montville Police say the child was alert and conscious.

Sexton was not wearing a seat belt.
