Oxford ,MS : Anthony Hervey, 49 dies in car crash after Confederate Flag rally on Sunday ,July 19th 2015

An Oxford, Mississippi, man died in a car crash Sunday while on his way back from a Confederate Flag rally in Alabama.

Anthony Hervey, 49, has been well-known in Oxford for several decades.

Friends said he often sat outside an Oxford coffee shop talking philosophy for hours on end--sorting through political myths, and debating party lines.

He died Sunday when his 2005 Ford Explorer flipped over near the Pontotoc County line just before noon.

A passenger in the car told the Associated Press a car driven by several African-Americans chased them off the road. Local investigators have not released any specific details surrounding the case.

The Clarion-Ledger reports Hervey and his passenger were on the way home from a Confederate Flag rally. Hervey's passenger survived the crash.

"To see a black man in a Confederate uniform is one of the best ways to show that complication," one of Hervey's friends said.

Hervey is the author of "Why I Wave the Confederate Flag: Written by a Black Man."

He was no stranger to controversy.

Many people called him a radical, but his friends said that is just because he tried to enlighten society about problems most people choose to ignore.
