Halsey, OR : Woman killed, Junction City man seriously injured in Linn County crash on Monday, January 26, 2015
A Halsey woman was killed and a Junction City man seriously injured in a wrong-way vehicle accident on Highway 99 about one mile south of Halsey on Monday, Oregon State Police said.
Nancy Cavalo, 66, was driving a Pontiac GrandAm northbound in the southbound lane just before 6 p.m. when she struck a Mazda MZ3 head-on, according to police.
Police said darkness and foggy conditions may have contributed to the crash.
A Ford Edge, traveling behind the Mazda, then collided with the Pontiac, sending Richard J. Olson, 55, of Junction City, to the hospital with serious injuries.
Olson was first taken to Albany Hospital, then transferred to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis. A pregnant woman in the Mazda, whose name was not released, was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield, where she was treated and released.
Cavalo was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Authorities did not identify the driver of the Mazda. The crash, still being investigated, caused traffic delays for six hours.
