Ontario ,CA :Motorcyclist killed in Ontario crash following chase on Tuesday, 3rd July 2018

A motorcyclist who traveled at speeds over 100 mph to escape a pursuing sheriff’s deputy was killed when he crashed into a car in Ontario early Tuesday, authorities said.

The man’s name is not being released until his family is notified.

About 12:45 a.m., a sheriff’s deputy tried to stop the GSXR1000 motorcycle, which did not have a license plate, in the area of Milliken Avenue and Arrow Route in Rancho Cucamonga, according to news releases from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and Ontario Police Department.

The motorcycle sped off south on Milliken and the deputy chased it for about a mile and a half, until it reached 4th Street in Ontario, sheriff’s officials said. Deputies called off the pursuit “due to excessive and unsafe speeds,” Ontario police said.

The motorcycle continued another half-mile south until it broadsided a 1991 Toyota Corolla that was turning to enter the 10 Freeway, Ontario police said.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The Toyota’s driver was not injured, and was determined not to be under the influence.

Speed and alcohol have not been ruled out as factors in the crash, Ontario police said.

The on- and off-ramps from Milliken to the 10 Freeway were closed for hours, into the beginning of the morning commute, as authorities investigated.
